In order to compete for the Rising Phoenix Track Club, all high school-aged athletes (15-18) will need to be registered as members with the Rising Phoenix Track Club AND with USA Track & Field.
Fees for membership in the RPTC help the club to cover the costs of entry fees for meets for every athlete that will compete throughout the summer. For any track meets that will span over the course of two or more days, hotel costs will need to be covered by the athlete or their parents. Athletes can choose to room together and split the costs of hotel rooms, when needed. There will be a few meets throughout the summer that may require to stay one or more nights near the meet venue, especially if athletes qualify for the bigger USATF Junior Olympic Championship meets. There will also be plenty of meets that will just be down and back trips.
High school-aged athletes will be allowed to travel and remain under the supervision of club coaches ONLY if they have a current travel waiver for each separate track meet that is read, understood, and signed by a parent or guardian AND if they are averaging three practices a week. These athletes will remain under the supervision of the coaching staff attending the track meet/trip and will adhere to all policies and rules put forth by these coaches. The Rising Phoenix Track Club reserves the right to pull athletes from meets, events, practices, or revoke memberships of any athlete for any reason deemed fit by the RPTC coaching staff.
Practices will be held at the track facility at Sunridge Middle School for the summer of 2017, unless otherwise specified by coaches of the RPTC for certain days. Summer practices will begin on Wednesday, May 24th. Practices will be held, Monday through Friday, after school from 3:30 PM to approximately 6:00 PM while school is still in session until June 15th. After school has ended, on June 16th, practice times will shift to running from 9:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM.
The final formatting of how practices will be organized is still in development, but right now will run as follows:
Mondays – will be track event focused. Distance, sprints, hurdles.
Tuesdays – will be jumping event focused. Triple jump, long jump, high jump.
Wednesdays – will be track event focused. Distance, sprints, hurdles.
Thursdays – will be jumping event focused. Triple jump, long jump, high jump.
Fridays – will be track event focused. Distance, sprints, hurdles.
The schedule for throwing events is still being worked out at this point in time (5/16), but will be updated as soon as we have it finalized.
Coach Bradley will have season long workout plans written for each event group. Athletes are not required to be at practices five days a week, in fact, this is a club that YOU are paying for, so you are not required for anything. However, in order for athletes to be eligible to ride with and be under the supervision of coaches on track meet trips, you must average being at and participating in AT LEAST three practices a week.
**Special note for travel: There will not always be enough room with coaches for athletes to be able to travel with them. These spots will fill up on a first come, first serve basis. Therefore, those who meet the required practice eligibility and get their travel waivers signed and turned in FIRST will be the ones to get the seats. Any athletes that do not get a seat with coaches must ride with and stay under the supervision of parents/guardians for that meet.
Regardless of how athletes arrive to meets, all club members will meet up with the coach in charge when they get to the meet venue. The coach will hand out any bib numbers, schedules, or heat sheets that they have been given and will go over the meet schedule and give direction on when athletes should begin warm ups, check in for events, and be ready to compete.
